The Journey Inwards ~ Mindfulness and Intimacy for Women (May 9-11, 2013)

Women’s Mindfulness and Intimacy

with Nancy Mortifee

I am excited to invite you to join me May 9-11,2013 for a “Mindfulness and Intimacy for Women Retreat” at Cascadia Retreat Centre in Robert’s Creek.

In a sacred circle of women, explore tools for cultivating deeper intimacy in your relationships, beginning with yourself. Through body based meditation, artistic and emotional expression, connect with your deeper knowing, awaken to unconscious patterning, and learn to let go of behaviours that no longer serve you.

Together we will explore the issues that many women share:

• Learning to uncover and express feelings in the safety of a confidential and sacred circle.
• Sharing the challenges and joys of re-inventing ourselves in relationships, families and worklife.
• Deepening our spiritual life though meditation, stretching, music and movement.
• Discovering new avenues for creative expression using a variety of materials such as clay, collage, masks and textiles. (All of our work is experiential and every activity and process is voluntary.)
• Relaxing into beautiful natural surroundings and enjoying delicious healthy meals.

Once again I will be joined by workshop co-host Carol Sill. Creative and expressive practices will beautifully complement our personal “open seat” sessions. It’s a time to go deeply into ourselves, share with others and move more inwardly mindful through the busyness of this new year.

Queer Times: A Writing Retreat on the Sunshine Coast

October 12 to 14, 2012  – With Claire Robson and Elise Chenier

Elise Chenier

Claire Robson

We are all repositories of important histories and stories; too many of them never told.

Social historian Elise Chenier and memoirist Claire Robson combine forces to offer a unique creative learning experience inviting you to share memories of your formative years, and then to review them in the context of queer history. They will help you dig down into the heart and significance of your story, so that you can craft it into a piece that speaks to others. You will find the experience to be profound, engaging, and carefully structured, as these two experienced and professional educators work their magic. No previous writing experience required.

Claire Robson
is writer-in-residence for Quirk-e (Queer Imaging & Riting Kollective for Elders), a publicly funded arts group. Author of Love in Good Time, a memoir chronicling the 60s to the 80s, Writing for Change, an academic book about her work in critical arts practices, and editor of several anthologies. She has a lifetime experience of working with emergent writers.

Elise Chenier is a sex rights activist, a historian of sexuality, author, and founder of the Archive of Lesbian Oral Testimony at Simon Fraser University. She is currently writing a book about gay marriage in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. She is in the process of building the Archive of Lesbian Oral Testimony.

In this writing retreat you will:

  • Take some writing time just for you
  • Capture memories and gain the confidence needed to expand and explore them as meaningful narratives
  • Be supported in moving them into work that can reach wider audiences
  • Develop memoir and creative writing in a relaxing and comfortable environment
  • Get creatively unstuck
  • Be inspired and energized

Out of town participants can be accommodated at Cascadia Centre in cozy beds with cotton linen sheets and comfy duvets and experience mouthwatering home-made meals made just for us by our Cascadia’s wonderful chef. Light breakfast provided Saturday and Sunday, lunch both days and dinner Saturday night.
